Boxing Notes

This is a rolling update of the boxing tips I learn. Tips are written down as bullet points as they are picked up randomly during sparring.

Boxing Notes

Defend

  • Don't block punches with arms, do crunches or extend the body instead. Small, efficient movements that protect you while keeping your hands ready to fire back.
  • Don't slip when parrying the punches. Stay centered to parry.Slipping changes the line of your head while your hand is moving. That can actually guide the punch toward your face or make it harder to deflect cleanly.
  • When dodging the punches, don't pull back, use this chance to step in. This is beneficial to a shorter boxer because you get closer to the opponent.

Attack

  • Roll after uppercut, this helps you dodge the punch from the opponent after the uppercut.
  • When doing the hook and uppercut, don't extend the arms, use your body rotation to land the punches. The momentum gives better strength and speed, also avoids exposing the body too much.
  • Feint at the body and attack the head
